Strategic opportunities are big, important, game-changing – and difficult for companies to pursue. Unlike sustaining innovations that fit nicely into existing businesses plans, strategic opportunities make a company uncomfortable because they require new competencies and new business models and therefore companies have traditionally had a difficult time pursuing these types of opportunities. This talk examines the success patterns and failure modes of how companies pursue strategic opportunities based on research conducted over the past year. It will reveal specific dos and don’ts for companies who wish to make the pursuit of strategic opportunities part of their long-term growth strategy.
