What should a modern country’s innovation agenda look like? It may well look like Canada’s. In addition to focusing on technology, research and startups, Canada’s agenda incorporates social responsibility and benefit as a key part of its innovation objectives. The purpose of innovation should not just be to just large, billion dollar companies, but to support the ‘small, community-based, locally relevant businesses that meet real needs in real communities’. In other words, innovation should be used to create ‘an economy that cares for one another’.
